Implantation CrampsDuring pregnancy, a woman experiences many symptoms typical to the condition of pregnancy, of which cramps are the most common. These cramps can occur due to many factors.
One of the causes of the cramps experienced during the first trimester of the pregnancy is implantation. Implantation typically happens 8 or 10 days after the ovulation takes place. It is usually not seen until the tests confirming the pregnancy are positive. In some cases, however
women experience cramps and then they go for the test that confirms they are pregnant.
A sharp pain, which may not be very painful but uncomfortable and occurs when the embryo is implanted to the walls of the uterus and this procedure itself, may feel like a cramp. Implantation cramps may last for an hour or so and with or without light pink or brown blood. Bleeding is very mild and may happen for a day or two. Bleeding happens in very few women only, about a third.

It typically starts six days after ovulation, but may also happen between the second and the fourteenth day of the ovulation. Some women experience cramps during this time, when the fertilized egg gets implanted to the back wall of the uterus which may hurt the walls of the uterus. Cramping is a very common symptom during the implantation period, but in case there is no cramping, it does not necessarily mean that the foetus is not properly implanted.
The period of implantation depends on woman to woman. It may happen 3 days after the 3-day transfer in some women, or on the day after a 5-day transfer in some others. Menstrual-like cramping and bleeding are the common symptoms during the implantation period. Implantation cramps are obvious in some women, but often they may be a silent process in some women. So most of them may not even experience the implantation cramps.
Cramps during implantation may confirm the pregnancy but they may also suggest the occurring of the menstrual cycles and may be a sign of early miscarriage.
It is however, not possible to detect early if a cramp is an implantation cramp, since these cramps may not be necessarily associated with pregnancy. However, if these cramps are unusually painful, then a doctor has to be consulted immediately.
